A leading member of the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has slammed the Minority caucus in Parliament for condemning the mass dismissal of staff at the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
The central bank, after a staff assessment exercise, announced on June 19 that the appointments of about 100 staff members would not be confirmed due to poor performance during their probation.
It explained that the decision followed the completion of a staff probation review, which mainly affected personnel engaged after December 7, 2024.
However, at a press conference on Tuesday, June 24, the Minority described the move as a violation of Ghana’s labour laws and an attack on the rights of the affected workers.
Responding to the concerns on Accra-based TV3’s New Day show on Wednesday, June 25, Mr. Owusu, a former NPP member, said the NDC is guilty of similar actions in the past.
“Those holding press conferences and trying to make us believe they would have done things differently—more than 6,000 people lost their jobs under them.
“GN Bank alone saw over 3,000 people losing their jobs. So, if people are going to talk about retrenchment, it must not be coming from the New Patriotic Party. When they do that, it annoys the sensibilities of the people of this country,” he asserted.
