A member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has acknowledged the role of the Mahama-led administration in the recent appreciation of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar.
This admission presents an unusual shift from the Miracles’ political rhetorics that seek to pin down the NDC at the least chance.
Interestingly, Aboagye had taken to social media to acknowledge the early success of the Mahama-led government in stabilising the cedi.
“$1 is selling at about GHS13.4 on the Retail (Forex Bureau) Market today while the Interbank (Weighted Median) Rate published by the BoG stands at GHS13.2. The convergence between the interbank rate and the retail market rate is very remarkable Indeed #AbanPapaAba #CediReigns,” Sammy Gyamfi shared on his X on May 9, 2025.
However, in a surprising turn of events few hours later the same day, the NPP communicator shared another post on X, conceding to a claim made by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, regarding credit for the cedi’s performance.
“The one thing I agree with Sammy Gyamfi and Annan Perry (sic) is their push to give credit to the NDC government for the recent appreciation of the Cedi. I hold the firm belief that (sic) the Government of the day is responsible for the performance of the cedi,” Aboagye stated.
The motivation behind Aboagye’s unexpected concession to a political rival remains unclear.
However, his tone suggests a hint of caution, perhaps implying a “wait and see” attitude regarding the longevity of the cedi’s current stability.
