On Friday, June 27, 2025, the Ashanti Regional Office of the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA), in collaboration with the National Peace Council, organised a sensitization programme at Prempeh College in Sofoline, Kumasi.

Held at the school’s J. A. Kufuor Assembly Hall, the event attracted an audience of approximately 4,000 students and 20 staff members.

The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of small arms proliferation and to promote peaceful conflict resolution among young people.

Officers from NACSA delivered a 30-minute presentation highlighting the risks and legal consequences associated with the possession and misuse of small arms, particularly among the youth.

Students were urged to remain vigilant and responsible, and to report any suspicious activity that could threaten peace and security.

A representative from the National Peace Council also led a session on non-violent conflict resolution, encouraging students to embrace dialogue and peaceful approaches to resolving disputes both in school and within their communities.

The campaign forms part of NACSA’s broader commitment to maintaining a gun-violence-free Ghana and empowering young citizens to play an active role in fostering peace and security across the country.
