Mary Mumuni, the President’s nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE) of Nadowli/Kaleo District, has been rejected following a confirmation vote held on Monday, April 28.
Currently serving as the Women’s Organiser for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the district, Mary Mumuni secured 24 votes in favour and 28 against — falling short of the two-thirds majority required for her appointment.
Her rejection marks the second such instance in the Upper West Region during the current round of confirmation votes. On April 17, 2025, Shaibu Adamu, the President’s nominee for the Wa East District, also failed to gain approval from assembly members.
With the rejection in Nadowli/Kaleo, the district remains without a substantive DCE, awaiting the next steps from the Presidency. According to procedures, the President can either renominate the same candidates or propose new ones for a fresh vote.
Despite these isolated setbacks, the broader confirmation process across the Upper West Region has been largely successful, with nine out of eleven Municipal and District Assemblies endorsing their Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) nominees.
The residents of Nadowli/Kaleo and Wa East must now await further directives, as the local government leadership in their districts remains unsettled.
