NAHSAG Bloc condemns illegal elections, affirms support for Ernest Agyare leadership

The National Health Students Association of Ghana (NAHSAG) has strongly denounced what they describe as an illegal attempt to manipulate the association’s leadership.

Several student associations under NAHSAG have expressed their disappointment with the actions of the 2022 administration, accusing them of undermining the democratic process by imposing their preferred candidates.

In an official statement, the presidents of these associations made it clear that they did not recognize the disputed election and reaffirmed Ernest Agyare as the rightful president of NAHSAG. They urged their members to continue supporting him, emphasizing his exemplary leadership and the significant progress he has made.

The associations also pointed to a court ruling that explicitly prohibited the 2022 executives from conducting any elections, rendering their actions legally invalid. Despite this, the 2022 administration proceeded with an election that involved only 20 students, where all candidates ran unopposed. This move has been widely regarded as a blatant disregard for democratic principles.

Among the groups condemning the election are the Federation of Ghana Medical Laboratory Students Association, Physician Assistants Students Association, University Nursing Students Association of Ghana, Federation of Ghana Medical Imaging Students Association, Ghana Association of Health Training Institutions, Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association, and Pharmaceutical Sciences Federation Ghana.

These associations have called on all members to reject the illegitimate election and instead rally behind the duly recognized 2024/25 administration, led by Ernest Agyare. They have pledged to uphold democratic values and ensure the integrity of NAHSAG’s leadership process.
