National Council of Parent-Teacher Association pushes to promote digital drive in schools

The National Council of the Parent-Teacher Association (NCPTA) has launched the pilot phase of a digital literacy drive project aimed at enhancing the training of students in information and communication technology.

The project is targeted at providing essential logistics to accelerate ICT training, aiming to produce a human workforce fit for the fourth industrial revolution.

The President of the National Council of Parents Teachers’ Association, Christian Aikins Atsu, said that the project was developed to resolve the major challenge, which is the lack of logistics for training students in information, communication and technology in second-cycle schools.

He said this was arrived at at the back of the introduction of the new curriculum which heavily depends on an ICT infrastructure for effective implementation.

He said that the Association, therefore, entered into a partnership with Celltell Impressions to provide the digital resources and tools to second-cycle schools across the country.

He added that the parternship is targeted at improving ICT training, bridging the digital gap and ensuring that the students have access to the digital space anywhere they find themselves to improve their training.

“We have agreed with the service provider to supply tablets to students of all schools nationwide so that they can train themselves with the tablets. So, whatever course is being taught or they are learning, they can participate interactively both at home and in school, or wherever they find they go”, he said.

The Chairman and Founder of Celltel Impressions, Dr. Prince Kofi Kludjeson, underscored that his outfit aims to promote job creation through the project.

He believes that through the project, learners would be equipped with the right skills that would lead to them engaging in economic activities even before enrolling in tertiary education or getting employed in a job market.

“We are allocating a $100 million for this PTA project so that all the children in schools will be able to be empowered with internet to revise wherever they are. We will create a platform that will bring the teachers and students together through the internet”, he said.

He added that his outfit aims to provide ICT infrastructure in every corner of the country to ensure all citizens have access to digital opportunities to promote socioeconomic growth.

The Headmaster of Awudome Senior High School, Courage Meteku, said the initiative conforms with his school’s vision of producing technologically inclined graduates.

He admonished that the tablets should be set up to restrict students from accessing materials and sites that may not be beneficial to their training and development.
