National Security operatives and police officers who stormed the residence of Bernard Antwi Boasiako—widely known as Chairman Wontumi—have pulled back after a heated standoff with his supporters.
The operation, which unfolded early Friday at Wontumi’s home in Paraku Estate, was reportedly carried out under the authority of a search warrant. Although Joy News confirmed the existence of the warrant, the exact motive behind the raid remains unknown.
Speculation had earlier swirled that the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) was under house arrest, though his location at the time of the operation was not immediately clear.
News of the raid quickly drew dozens of Wontumi’s supporters and several high-ranking NPP officials to the scene.
Their arrival intensified the situation, with tensions boiling over into a confrontation that ultimately forced the security team to withdraw from the premises.
