NCCE holds Constitution quiz in Binduri District

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a quiz competition among Junior High Schools (JHS), on the 1992 Constitution in the Binduri district in the Upper East Region.

The objective of the exercise was to deploy quizzes to promote learning on the content of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

It was also a strategy and tool used to create awareness of the main values of democratic governance to instill the spirit of patriotism and enhance citizens’ participation in governance at all levels.

The occasion, which formed part of the activities of the Commission, was to commemorate the 68th Independence celebration of Ghana, where students were engaged to bring to bear the knowledge they had acquired with respect to the 1992 Constitution.

Emmanuel Abass Laari, the Binduri District Director of the NCCE, during the exercise, thanked the patrons of participating schools for making time to be part of the programme despite their busy schedules.

He told the students that as young citizens, they had the responsibility to get involved in the development of the country as the theme for the Commission: “Ghana’s future: Our collective Responsibility,” stated.

The Director encouraged the students to attach more seriousness to civic education clubs in their respective schools since it was an avenue to equip them with varying knowledge on discipline, patriotism, hard work, love for one another, time management, as well as the basic principles of the Constitution, among others.

On the issue of the insecurity in the district, Laari encouraged the students to abide by the laws of Ghana, stay in school during school hours and be at home after school sessions so as to avoid being victims of any likely attack since the district had in recent times experienced series of attacks resulting in loss of lives.

Ezekiel Abugre, the Headmaster of Christian Academy and host school on behalf of the competing schools, expressed gratitude to the Commission for organising such an educative programme.

They also pledged to support the activities of the Commission since it played a vital role in improving the lives of the students.

The four schools that were part of the competition included Benguri Junior High School, Binduri Girls Model JHS, Christian Academy JHS, and Zaid Islamic JHS.

At the end of the competition, the Binduri Girls Model JHS emerged winner with 45 points, Christian Academy JHS placed second with 36 points, Benguri JHS came in third position with 31.5 points, while Zaid Islamic JHS had the fourth place with 27 points.

To motivate the students, awards were also given to the respective schools.
