NDPC Director General calls for stronger collaboration between GITFiC and state agencies on AfCFTA, global debt initiative

The Director General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah, has called for a collaboration between the Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference GITFiC and various state agencies on key initiatives, including the Global Debt Initiative and the African Continental Free Trade Area.

She said this at a high-level meeting proposed by the two institutions to discuss the implementation of the GITFiC agenda, which includes a global debt initiative and an implementation roadmap for 2025-2031.

The Director General expressed the Commission’s willingness to work with GITFiC on economic research and advocacy.

The Commission has agreed to serve on a committee to supervise the implementation of GITFiC projects, alongside officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Ghana, the Ministry of Trade, and other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

It mentioned that the group will meet both digitally and in person and noted that GITFiC has institutionalized tertiary clubs in four universities in Ghana and two in Togo to implement its initiatives

The commission stated that GITFiC will assign a representative to the NDPC and submit a position paper, the six-year plan, and an official letter requesting the participation of the NDPC on the committee.

Additionally, the Agenda 2051 document and a copy of the curricula will be submitted to NDPC for review and potential integration into the national policy framework.

The GITFiC conference is scheduled to take place in November, and a policy framework on debt management and sustainability is being developed for review by the NDPC.

With the government’s support, GITFiC is poised to make a significant impact on Ghana’s economic development and its role in the African continent.

The Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference (GITFiC) received a boost from the government, with the President’s office referring a letter from GITFiC CEO, Mr. Selasi Koffi Ackom, to the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) for further action.
