Nana Dr Kwasi Sasu IV, the newly outdoored Awosohene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Council, has issued a powerful call for chiefs and leaders to embrace the ideas of the youth and foster greater unity to accelerate the development of Akyem Oda.
Speaking during his official outdooring ceremony, Nana Sasu IV, who assumes the significant traditional role of overseeing the weapons and ambitions of Akyem Kotoku, emphasised the invaluable contributions young people can make.
“The youth have valuable insights and suggestions that can contribute to the development of our town. We should not dismiss their ideas and opinions just because they are young,” he stated emphatically.
He further urged traditional leaders to cultivate an environment where young voices can be heard without fear. “We also need to create a conducive environment for the youth to express themselves without fear of being intimidated. Our position and authority should not be used to silence them or make them feel inferior. We should encourage them to speak up and share their thoughts and ideas,” Nana Sasu IV added.
Beyond youth inclusion, the Awosohene highlighted unity and diversity as critical factors for community progress. He implored leaders to set aside personal differences for the common good of Akyem Oda.
“As leaders, we need to set aside our personal differences and work towards a common goal of making Akyem Oda a better place for all. This can only be achieved if we come together and have open and honest discussions, leaving behind any negativity or bad blood,” he counselled.
Nana Sasu IV lamented that historical disunity has hampered the town’s growth. “We are far behind due to unity and diversity for so many years and I will plead we have to let things go away so that investors and developers can come to this town for their business and it will let our youth get something to do for a living,” he stressed, linking unity directly to economic prosperity and job creation for the youth.
Underscoring the long-term vision, Nana Sasu IV reminded the gathering that “the youth are the future leaders of our town. We need to support and empower them to become responsible and active members of our community. By listening to them and involving them in decision-making processes, we are also building a stronger and more united town for the future.”
In his concluding remarks, the Awosohene urged all chiefs and leaders in Akyem Oda to heed his call for greater openness to youth ideas and renewed commitment to unity, for the forging of a more prosperous future for generations to come.
