The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has released an additional GHC 259,546,601.77 to credentialed healthcare providers across the country.

The payment, approved by NHIA Chief Executive Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, covers claims submitted by public, private, mission, and quasi-public health facilities.

In a statement issued by the NHIA Corporate Affairs Directorate, the Authority reaffirmed its commitment to timely reimbursement and financial sustainability within Ghana’s health sector. The disbursement, made within a remarkable 21-day turnaround time in May 2025, reflects significant strides in operational efficiency.

A breakdown of the payment reveals that public health facilities received GHC 112,607,239.74, representing 43% of the total amount. Private facilities were paid GHC 104,643,070.75, accounting for 40% of the total payment. Mission facilities received GHC 40,015,892.20, constituting 15% of the total amount, while quasi-public facilities were allocated GHC 2,280,399.08, representing 1%.

This latest disbursement brings the total claims payments for 2025 to over GHC 1.1 billion, specifically GHC 1,103,028,808.59. The NHIA’s commitment to sustaining the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and empowering healthcare providers to continue delivering quality services is evident in its prompt payment.

The Authority emphasized its dedication to transparency and accountability, expressing gratitude to stakeholders for their ongoing support. The NHIA’s prompt payments come at a crucial time when provider confidence and consistent funding are key to achieving universal health coverage for all Ghanaians.

By ensuring timely payments, the NHIA aims to strengthen provider relations, improve efficiency, and ultimately enhance the quality of healthcare services delivered to Ghanaians.
