The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has responded to a call from the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to support victims of recent tidal waves by presenting a cheque for GH¢100,000 to the Council.

The Director-General of the NLA, Mohammed Abdul-Salam, presented the cheque to the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, who was accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive of Ketu South Municipal Assembly, Mr. Nicholas Kwabla Worclachie, along with some assembly members.

Abdul-Salam emphasized the NLA’s swift response to the disaster, stating that the Authority, through its Good Causes Foundation, acted promptly to help alleviate the plight of the victims.

“We have seen the devastation the tidal waves have caused in these communities, and that is why, when the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, through the Regional Minister, appealed to the NLA for support, we prioritised it. We believe our contribution will provide immediate relief to these displaced families and support them in this time of need,” he said.

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Ketu South Municipal Assembly, Mr. Nicholas Kwabla Worclachie, expressed profound gratitude to the NLA for its timely and generous support, stating that the donation would make a substantial impact on the lives of the affected people.

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, noted that the NLA was the first institution to respond to their call for assistance. He thanked Mr. Abdul-Salam and the NLA management for their support.

He further explained that the tidal wave victims have had their economic livelihoods disrupted and are now living in tents. He said the funds would be used to provide urgent shelter, food, and clothing for the displaced residents of Agavedzi, Asalakope, and Amutinu, addressing their most immediate needs.

The NLA Good Causes Foundation is the Authority’s charity arm, spearheading its corporate social responsibility efforts. The Foundation operates under four key pillars: Health, Education, Youth and Sports Development, and Arts and Culture. It is guided by Section 2(3) of the National Lotto Act, which mandates the NLA to conduct lotteries to support the care and protection of the physically or mentally challenged, the needy, the aged, orphans, and destitute children.
