‘No one is calling Sammy Gyamfi a thief’ – Effia MP

Effia Member of Parliament, Isaac Yaw Boamah-Nyarko, has clarified that recent criticisms of National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, are not intended to label him a thief, but rather to promote accountability and proper conduct in public office.

Sammy Gyamfi came under intense public scrutiny after a video emerged showing him handing over an amount of US dollars to self-styled evangelist Patricia Asieduaa, popularly known as Nana Agradaa. The footage sparked widespread backlash, with many describing the act as reckless and inappropriate.

In response to the outrage, Mr Gyamfi issued a public apology for his actions.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Mr Boamoah-Nyarko emphasised that the Minority’s concern lies in upholding public standards and not in tarnishing anyone’s reputation.

“No one is saying Sammy Gyamfi is a thief, but if a government appointee is not doing the right thing, we have to speak up—for the betterment of the country,” he stated.

He stressed that public officials must adhere to the President’s code of conduct, particularly when managing public resources and demonstrating ethical leadership.
“We want to hold the government accountable and responsible. Why did he [Sammy Gyamfi] apologise if nothing was wrong? Clearly, he knows his actions were not appropriate,” he added.

The Effia MP dismissed suggestions of political vendetta, saying their position is not based on bitterness or personal grievances. “No one is pained about anyone. We are simply insisting on doing the right thing.”

He concluded by urging the President to take decisive steps to reinforce discipline and uphold ethical behaviour among his appointees.
