The Kumasi High Court, presided over by His Honour Mr. Abdul Razak, ESQ, has convicted and sentenced 36-year-old Dominic Afriyie, also known as GH, to life imprisonment for murder and 120 years with hard labour for two counts of robbery.
The ruling stems from a violent incident on November 20, 2021, when Afriyie stormed the residence of the late Michael Dela Agbo Klu and his family at gunpoint in Atasemanso, Kumasi.
During the robbery, Afriyie made away with two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and GH¢1,500 in cash. In the course of the attack, he fatally shot Mr. Klu, a 43-year-old pharmacist and building contractor.
Acting on intelligence about a planned robbery in the same area, police mounted a surveillance operation on December 30, 2021.
In the early hours of December 31, a police team intercepted a Toyota Corolla with registration number AS 5970-20, arresting Afriyie and three others. The search of the vehicle uncovered two pistols and two single-barreled shotguns.
Further investigations revealed that Dominic Afriyie had acted alone in the robbery and murder of Mr. Klu. His conviction marks a significant step in bringing justice to the victim’s family and reaffirms the police and judiciary’s commitment to tackling violent crime.
