The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest and extradition of a notorious armed robbery suspect, Adinda Abdul Mujibu, who had been on the run after a string of high-profile robberies targeting affluent neighbourhoods in Accra between 2022 and 2024.

Speaking at a press briefing on Saturday, May 17, the police revealed that Mujibu, also known by several aliases including Rashid Bawa, Maxwell, Papa Rich, and Dawa, was captured in Togo and handed over to Ghanaian authorities on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

His arrest follows a months-long manhunt involving intensive intelligence operations, international collaboration, and the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice.

According to the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department, DCOP, Lydia Yaako Donkor, Mujibu’s criminal activities were primarily directed at influential individuals residing in upscale neighbourhoods such as East Legon, Cantonments, Ridge, Tesano, Airport Residential Area, and Adjiriganor.

These robberies were often violent and meticulously executed, sparking fear and outrage across the Greater Accra Region.

Police investigations, aided by extensive CCTV footage and public support, revealed that Mujibu operated with an accomplice, Alidu Mazuk, who was arrested in Ghana on September 4, 2024, and is currently assisting with ongoing investigations.

Mujibu, however, managed to evade capture and fled the country, prompting authorities to suspect he was hiding in Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, or Nigeria.

Further investigations confirmed he possessed both Ghanaian and Togolese identification documents.

International Cooperation and Capture

Following the issuance of an arrest warrant by a Ghanaian court and his listing on Interpol’s Red Notice, Interpol Accra formally requested assistance from Interpol Lomé.

On January 10, 2025, through sustained intelligence work and cooperation, Togolese authorities successfully arrested Mujibu in Lomé, where he was held in custody pending judicial processes.

After several engagements between Ghanaian and Togolese authorities, the suspect’s extradition was approved on May 12, 2025.

The police noted that on May 14, a five-member Ghanaian delegation, led by a senior police official, flew to Lomé aboard a military aircraft. There, Commissioner Principal of the Togolese Police, ASI Elo Ani, officially handed over the suspect in the presence of officials from the Ghana Embassy in Togo.

The police noted that the suspect was returned to Accra the same day and is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

“The extradition was made possible under the Agreement on Cooperation in Criminal Matters Between Police Services of West African States, signed in Accra on December 19, 2003, which facilitates expedited transfers of suspects wanted for criminal offenses in their home countries.”

The police assured the public of their continued commitment to ensuring safety and security, and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
