The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has moved swiftly to dispel reports of a shortage of Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) in Ghana, assuring the public and the aviation sector that there is currently an adequate supply of the essential fuel across the country.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, July 24, 2025, and signed by its Corporate Affairs Directorate, the NPA clarified that over 10,000 metric tonnes of ATK are currently being discharged into key national depots, following the successful completion of critical pipeline replacement works.
“Engineers of the GPMS have successfully completed the replacement of 600 meters of pipelines for the discharge of ATK for various aviation purposes,” the statement noted, commending the engineers for working around the clock to ensure operational continuity.
The Authority further disclosed that a vessel carrying over 10,000 metric tonnes of ATK is actively discharging fuel into national depots with the following allocations: 6,000MT to the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), 1,500MT to Ridge Depot, and 4,500MT to PWSL. According to the NPA, this supply is expected to last up to two weeks under current demand conditions.
To reinforce supply stability, the NPA confirmed that two more vessels are currently at anchorage, ready to discharge additional fuel as scheduled.
Meanwhile, tankers have commenced loading operations from the Sahara Depot to deliver fuel directly to the airport, signalling what the Authority described as a “strong indication that the supply chain remains intact and resilient.”
The NPA also advised the media and the general public to disregard what it called “any reports of a shortage of aviation fuel,” stressing its continued collaboration with key industry stakeholders to maintain product availability and energy security nationwide.
In conclusion, the NPA expressed gratitude to the GPMS engineers for their dedication and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the smooth functioning of Ghana’s aviation fuel supply chain.
