The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has added its voice to mounting demands for the dismissal of Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa and her two deputies, accusing them of presiding over what it calls a collapsing electoral process marred by misjudgment and ineptitude.

The party’s stance follows a fiery call by National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who earlier branded the EC’s leadership as unfit for office and demanded their immediate removal.

In a sharp rebuke delivered on Joy FM’s PM Express, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong lambasted the EC’s decision to order a re-run of elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency. He argued that such a move was not only unnecessary but a damning reflection of the Commission’s “ineffective” handling of its mandate.

“This is a clear case of incompetence,” Mr Kodua declared. “The NPP will support any legitimate demand for the removal of the EC Chair and her deputies. Their actions continue to undermine public trust in the electoral system.”

Mr Kodua maintained that only results from three polling stations were pending and were enough to determine the winner of the December 7 parliamentary election in the constituency. He said the EC’s insistence on a broader re-run was unjustified and signals troubling dysfunction within the Commission.

The NPP’s position now aligns with that of the ruling NDC, creating rare bipartisan consensus around the need to restructure the EC’s top leadership as political tensions intensify ahead of the 2028 general elections.

With pressure mounting, the spotlight remains firmly fixed on Jean Mensa and her team, as questions grow about their ability to deliver a credible and transparent electoral process.
