The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the immediate interdiction of the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, following his public gifting of US dollars to Evangelist Nana Agradaa.
The incident, captured in widely circulated videos on May 10, 2025, showed Gyamfi handing over cash in dollar denominations to the former fetish priestess while seated in his Range Rover.
During a news conference on Tuesday, May, 13, 2025, NPP National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, urged President John Dramani Mahama to suspend Gyamfi pending investigations by state criminal authorities.
“We also call on the president to immediately interdict Mr Sammy Gyamfi as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board — or at least, he should interdict him pending the conduct of the investigation by the criminal investigation authorities of the state,” Henry Boakye said.
He stressed the need for accountability, referencing the case of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah, who resigned after reports of stolen money from her residence.
He noted that Cecilia Dapaah, a seasoned public servant, stepped aside under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, allowing the Office of the Special Prosecutor to conduct a thorough seven-month investigation.
“We cannot but remember when huge sums of money were reported to have been stolen from the residence of Madam Cecilia Dapaah, a woman who had worked in high places for over forty years before the incident — an MP since 2001, a deputy minister and a minister — married to a well-known, wealthy architect and consultant with nearly sixty years’ experience,” he stated.
A viral video showing Sammy Gyamfi handing US dollar notes to Evangelist Patricia Oduro, known as Nana Agradaa, sparked public outrage and political backlash.
Critics, including the Minority in Parliament, have condemned the act as a breach of conduct, citing violations of Ghana’s Currency Act and Code of Conduct for public officials, and demanded his suspension and an investigation into the source of the funds.
Meanwhile, Sammy Gyamfi has apologised for the incident, describing the gesture as a private act of kindness.
However, according to the NPP, Sammy Gyamfi’s interdiction and subsequent investigation into his action is necessary to uphold transparency, good governance, and public trust.
