The main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has begun a constitutional amendment process as part of efforts to reposition the party for future electoral contests after losing the 2024 polls.
The party has opened a window for all members and recognised bodies to submit written proposals to the Office of the General Secretary.
In a memorandum dated April 25 and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, the party announced that the deadline for submission is Friday, May 9.
“Pursuant to Article 19(a) of the NPP Constitution, the Party is by this formal communication requesting its Members and Identifiable Groups wishing to propose amendments to the NPP Constitution to submit their written proposal(s) to the Party.
“Amendment proposals are to be submitted to the Office of the General Secretary at the Party Headquarters or sent directly to the Constitutional Amendment Committee through the Committee’s Secretary or via email at [email protected]. The deadline for submission of all proposals is Friday, May 9, 2025,” the memo stated.
The party expressed hope that it will receive reform proposals that will culminate in a revised constitution to address structural and other critical issues confronting the NPP.
It also announced plans to hold an Extraordinary National Delegates Conference in July to consider the various proposals, which will be presented in the form of motions for adoption.
