Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has criticized Members of Parliament of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he describes as an attempt to misrepresent the 2025 budget.
According to him, the Minority caucus has been peddling falsehoods about budget allocations, creating unnecessary controversy.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, March 19, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu cited claims of overspending at the Presidency due to the 2.7 billion cedis allocation. He also refuted an assertion by Tano North MP Dr. Gideon Boako that 78 million cedis had been earmarked for government communications under his office.
“Mr. Speaker, I happen to speak for that office, and therefore I’m in a position to correct all the distortions and misinformation that they put out. Mr. Speaker, three claims have been made. They have said that 2.7 billion Ghana cedis has been allocated to the Office of the President, and that this is far more than what was allocated to the same office in 2024. Because of that, there is some wrongdoing. They have also claimed that 78 million Ghana cedis has been allocated to my office.
“And finally, they have claimed that 15 million Ghana cedis has been allocated to the Office of the President for research. Mr. Speaker, none of these claims are true, and I will provide evidence,” he stated.
Clarifying the structure of the Office of the President, he explained that it comprises six units, including the General Administration, the Office of the Chief of Staff, the Vice President’s Secretariat, the Cabinet Secretariat, the Press Secretariat, and the Policy Coordination and Delivery Unit.
“In addition to this, Mr. Speaker, there are 24 different agencies that add up to these six to make up 30 different agencies, which constitute what we call the Office of Government Machinery,” he explained.
