Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, is calling on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to embrace discipline, reorganisation, and unity as it prepares for its upcoming presidential primaries and the 2028 general elections.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on the evening of Thursday, June 20, Boamah underscored the urgent need for the party to rebuild its internal structures and approach the next electoral cycle with renewed focus and cohesion.
“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) needs a strong party, well organised and disciplined to produce a President, not just a Flagbearer,” he posted.
His remarks come amid increasing calls for reform within the NPP following its loss in the 2024 general elections. Senior party members and grassroots supporters have been pressing for introspection and strategic realignment in order to restore public confidence and electoral viability.
The party is currently gearing up for its presidential primaries, scheduled for January 31, 2026, with a crowded field of contenders expected to vie for the top slot. High-profile aspirants include former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Agric Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, known for his fiery style.
In the midst of this buildup, Kwasi Kwarteng, a former spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, recently hinted that Patrick Boamah himself may be considering a bid for the flagbearer position. However, Boamah has not confirmed or denied any such ambition.
For now, his message of party unity and structural discipline resonates as a timely reminder to a party facing the task of redefining its future—and possibly its leadership.
