The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially opened nominations for aspirants seeking to lead the party into the 2028 general elections as its presidential candidate.

The nomination process commenced on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, and will close on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Interested candidates are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of GH₵100,000 through a banker’s draft made payable to the New Patriotic Party. The party has directed that all payments must be processed through the office of the General Secretary.

Announcing the details at a press briefing in Accra, the General Secretary of the party, Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong, confirmed the official opening of the nomination process and outlined the necessary procedures aspirants must follow.

“Each aspirant must first obtain nomination forms and pay a non-refundable application fee of one hundred thousand Ghana cedis (GH₵100,000) through banker’s draft into the party’s designated account. This should be done strictly through the General Secretary’s office,” he stated.

He further disclosed that beyond the initial application fee, each aspirant will also be required to pay a separate filing fee of GH₵500,000 in accordance with the decisions made by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

“This is in line with the NEC’s resolution to ensure the process is conducted in an orderly and transparent manner,” Justin Kodua added.

As part of the roadmap for the internal presidential primaries, the party has constituted a nine-member vetting committee to supervise the eligibility screening of all aspiring candidates. The committee will be chaired by former Defence Minister and senior party statesman, Hon. Addo Kufuor.

“The vetting process is an important part of our internal democracy and will be handled professionally. The committee, under the leadership of Hon. Addo Kufuor, will ensure all aspirants meet the standards expected of a presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party,” Kodua Frimpong said.
