The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has firmly resolved to proceed with its much-anticipated National Delegates Conference on Saturday, July 19, 2025, brushing aside internal calls for a postponement.
Despite a petition from some members requesting a rescheduling of the event to address lingering internal matters, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council have unanimously decided to stay the course, citing significant logistical groundwork and binding commitments already in place.
Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, confirmed the decision during a press briefing after the Council’s meeting.
“There was a petition that the date for the conference should be changed. Our NEC, after considering it, decided that we should continue. Given the preparation and commitments that we have made, the conference will proceed as announced,” he stated.
The upcoming conference is seen as a turning point for the party, with a series of major constitutional reforms topping the agenda. Delegates will examine and vote on key proposals emerging from the Prof. Mike Oquaye Committee’s report, as well as a longstanding reform initiative from the 2019 Delegates Conference held in Kumasi.
Although the 2019 proposal received approval in principle, it has yet to be officially adopted. Party leaders believe this year’s conference offers a critical opportunity to finalise and implement the changes.
At a separate media engagement, the NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, underscored the significance of the reforms in charting a forward-looking course for the party.
“That report, which has a package of amendments and proposals resulting from the Mike Oquaye Committee and other submissions by party members, is part of the bundle that this conference will consider,” Ahiagbah said.
He further noted that the reforms are central to strengthening the party’s institutional framework, improving internal cohesion, and positioning the NPP to regain power in the 2028 general elections.
The 2025 conference will be held under the theme, “Rebuilding Together With Our Values,” a rallying call that captures the party’s renewed focus on unity, ideological clarity, and strategic preparation for the road ahead.
