NPP stalwart Amoako Baah hints at new party to be called New Patriotic Front

A Political Scientist and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Amoako Baah, says Ghanaians should look out for the New Patriotic Front, a new political party that is set to emerge out of the NPP.

In an exclusive interview with Alfred Ocansey on April 14, the Political Scientist said the formation of this party has become necessary because the current leadership of the party has failed.

“We want to fix the party, but those involved in the wrongdoing are the ones in charge. Do you think they will willingly give you a chance to throw them out? No, they won’t. leave the party for them and form a new one. The shortest way around this thing is to form a new party,” he disclosed.

Dr Amoako Baah was reacting to media reports attributable to some leading members of the NPP to the effect that the party lost the December 2024 elections because “Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was the wrong candidate.”

Dr Amoako Baah disagreed with this assertion and blamed the leadership of the NPP, particularly ex President Akufo-Addo for its colossal loss in the 2024 elections.

“It should be put on his head. He became very unpopular. He became arrogant,” he said.

He said the party chairman allowed the former president to do whatever he wanted within the party. He went as far as threatening his own party members, especially the MPs.

“If I was the chairman, I would have thrown him out of the party. Because no president should be given any power to do such a thing. Campaign against your own party members, no. Does the party belong to him?” he questioned.

He stated that the only way for NPP supporters to bypass the leaders of the party and change things is to join the New Patriotic Front.

“All NPP supporters should join the new party that is coming up, New Patriotic Front. When it comes out, join. That will be the real party. The old one should be left for the corrupt leaders,” the Political Scientist said.

Dr. Baah said the matters arising out of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are proof of the NPP’s lack leadership.

“The old party is incompetent and corrupt. Look at what is happening in ECG,” he cited.

Apart from inconsistent power distribution, the ECG also faces some procurement scandals, as seen in the case of the 1,300 “missing” containers belonging to the company.

He also alleged that the Nana Akufo-Addo led administration printed new cedi notes in a quest to have a little room to pay the creditors of the government.

“They print more notes so they can have a little room to pay the creditors of the government, and in so doing destroyed the economy of the country. They printed the money in big volumes and are now hiding it. This has set the country back for a long time. If the country doesn’t get a person to step in with emergency powers, then we are doomed,” he warned.

Dr. Baah says Ghanaians will know that the New Patriotic Front is the real NPP when they see all the people who are in it.
