The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to officially kick-start its internal contest for the 2028 presidential ticket, with nominations for flagbearer candidates opening on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
This marks the beginning of a pivotal chapter in the party’s roadmap toward the 2026 presidential primaries, which are scheduled to take place on January 31, 2026.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, confirmed the date and explained that the move complies with the party’s constitutional requirement to provide a minimum of six months’ notice ahead of any presidential primary.
“The opening of nominations is a constitutional obligation and signals our readiness to begin the process of selecting the next flagbearer who will lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections,” Nana B said.
With the stage now set, political watchers are anticipating a highly competitive internal race as the party prepares to choose a successor to outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The upcoming contest is expected to draw significant national attention, with multiple high-profile figures likely to throw their hats into the ring.
The NPP leadership has pledged to conduct a fair and transparent process that reflects the party’s commitment to internal democracy and electoral integrity.
