The NPP-USA Washington DC Metro Area Chapter, led by Chairman Janis Asare-Bediako, on Sunday, September 15, held a meeting with the Traditional Chiefs and Queen Mothers Association of Washington DC Metro.

The engagement was part of the ongoing NPP campaign, focusing on key manifesto policies concerning chieftaincy, cultural values, and family principles.

Chairman Janis expressed gratitude to the chiefs for their unwavering support, particularly for gracing the recently concluded NPP@30 anniversary celebrations.

He also formally announced Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as the running mate to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming elections, emphasising NAPO’s strengths and contributions to the ticket.

Key policies discussed included a review of Section 63 of the Chieftaincy Act to allow greater involvement of traditional rulers, as well as the next NPP government’s commitment to providing living allowances for paramount chiefs, divisional chiefs, and queen mothers.

The dialogue also touched on strengthening Ghanaian cultural and family values.

Addressing the galamsey (illegal mining) issue, the NPP delegation sought the chiefs’ support in combating the menace, acknowledging them as critical stakeholders in the fight.

In response, the chiefs praised the NPP’s manifesto proposals, calling them timely and much-needed reforms. However, they cautioned against empty promises, urging the party to follow through with implementation.

The chiefs also advised the NPP to actively communicate its achievements, noting that the public’s perception of past accomplishments would play a key role in the upcoming elections.

Chairman Janis reaffirmed the party’s dedication to working closely with traditional rulers to ensure the success of its policies and programs.

This meeting marks an important step in fostering collaboration between the NPP and traditional leadership, as the party continues to strengthen its relationship with key cultural stakeholders ahead of the elections.
