NPP’s decision not to release Oquaye’s report is to shield actors of 2024 defeat — Asante Okyere

A political science lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Jonathan Asante Okyere, has raised concerns over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to keep the findings of the Prof. Mike Oquaye-led committee report under wraps following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

In an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s midday news on Thursday, April 17, 2025, Dr. Okyere suggested that the party’s reluctance to publish the report may be a calculated effort to protect certain influential individuals whose roles may have contributed to the electoral loss.

According to him, the NPP’s directive barring party members from discussing the contents of the report reflects a lack of transparency that could harm the party’s chances of rebuilding.

“It is troubling that the party leadership is preventing members from commenting on the report. Members should have been given the space to express their views on what went wrong in the elections,” he remarked.

Dr. Okyere acknowledged that the NPP is within its rights to decide whether or not to release the full findings. However, he stressed that publishing at least portions of the report would promote openness and help the party chart a clear path forward.

He also warned that the secrecy surrounding the report is enabling entrenched figures to retain their influence, which could undermine any genuine attempts at reform.

The Prof. Mike Oquaye committee, commissioned to examine the causes of the party’s electoral defeat, reportedly submitted its findings to the NPP’s national leadership earlier this week. Yet, no details of the report have been shared with the public.
