Post election defeat should have taught the NPP a lesson that their division created deep cracks in the party, hence the need for this political face-work called THANK YOU TOUR. But it has turned out that the figures leading the course are rather exacerbating the plight by openly ‘peeling their gore’ (exchanging words in public). The organizers of this course failed to put certain key factors in place and it will cost them nothing to go back and recalculate their steps.
The first factor is leadership. Post the woeful defeat of the elephant, those that led the party to experience such unheard defeat should’ve been recessive in leading the tour. A lot of voters and key party people were themselves on each other during the heat of campaign and that still lingers in their hearts and minds, as they attacked each other’s integrity, personalities and leadership acumens, making redemption extremely difficult.
Notwithstanding, a neutral, calm and well spoken person should have been the ring leader of the tour and no one comes to mind either than their very own Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the former minister for education and member of parliament for the good people of Bosomtwe who has been very demure over the years. It’s not out of order that a professor of political science carried out a survey that resulted that Dr. Adutwum was the voter’s choice over the running mate Dr Bawumia chose for the party, Napo. His calm nature and soft voice is able to ‘part the seas’ and ‘melt the hearts’, calming tensions and resolving hearts back to normalcy. He is someone who commands respect naturally and in these times of healing, he would have been the best medication.
Also, funding is also a key factor. Was the whole tour funded by the party or a single person? A single source funding of the event by an individual creates disbelief that the event is tilted to project that candidate than the actual course it’s intended to. There is the perception that the whole thank you project is financed by H.E Dr Mahmud Bawumia, hence the distrust evidenced in the constant shades and banter. The elephant fraternity can do more by looking into the aforementioned elements.
