The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has suspended its nationwide strike following a high-level meeting with Parliament’s Select Committee on Health.
Announcing the decision at a press conference in Accra, GRNMA President, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, directed all members to return to work starting tomorrow.
She explained that the decision was made in good faith to allow for continued negotiations on the delayed implementation of their revised Conditions of Service.
The industrial action, which began earlier this week, was triggered by the government’s failure to uphold a Collective Agreement signed with the Ministry of Health in May 2024. The association said the ongoing delays had tested the patience of its members and disrupted critical healthcare services nationwide.
While the strike has been suspended, Mrs. Ofori-Ampofo warned that the government must act quickly to fulfil its promises or risk further disruptions.
“This should serve as a wake-up call,” she said. “We are open to dialogue, but we will not hesitate to take further action if our concerns continue to be ignored.”
The GRNMA emphasized its readiness to work with stakeholders to find a lasting resolution but made clear that the health and welfare of its members remain a top priority.
