Obuasi East MCE urges BECE candidates to uphold municipality’s legacy of excellence

The Chief Executive of the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu, has called on candidates sitting for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to uphold the municipality’s proud tradition of academic excellence.

He emphasized that Obuasi has consistently produced outstanding BECE results over the years and encouraged the students to continue that legacy.

Hon. Adzowu made the remarks during a visit to various BECE centres in the municipality on the first day of the exams. He was accompanied by the Municipal Education Director, Mr. Kwabena Owusu Nketiah, Municipal Coordinating Director Eric Aboagye-Mensah, and other officials from the Obuasi East Education Directorate. The tour aimed to observe the conduct of the exams and to motivate the candidates.

Speaking directly to the students, the MCE urged them to take the examination seriously, stressing that it marks a critical first step toward securing their future. He also advised them to remain calm, focused, and confident. “The excellence of your future begins today,” he said. “Avoid any form of examination malpractice that could jeopardize your academic journey.”

Mr. Kwabena Owusu Nketiah, the Municipal Director of Education, expressed confidence in the candidates’ preparedness. He disclosed that the Directorate, in collaboration with stakeholders, had organized four mock examinations for the candidates to ensure they were well-prepared. “We believe these mock exams have given the students a strong foundation and familiarized them with the exam structure, increasing their chances of success,” he said.

Mr. Nketiah also appealed for the establishment of a model school in the Obuasi East Municipality, describing it as one of the key challenges facing the Directorate.

This year, a total of 2,030 candidates are sitting for the BECE in Obuasi East. The cohort includes 961 boys and 1,069 girls. Of the total, 1,436 candidates are from public schools, while 594 are from private institutions. The exams are being conducted across eight centres in the municipality.
