Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has taken aim at Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the defeated 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing him of refusing to accept responsibility for the party’s electoral loss.
In a Facebook post dated April 27, 2025, Dr. Omane Boamah, who also served as Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2024 elections, expressed disappointment over what he described as Dr. Bawumia’s efforts to shift blame onto others.
“Elections 2024: Bawumia is blaming everything and everybody EXCEPT HIMSELF. Bawumia was critical for NPP’s economic mess!” Dr. Omane Boamah wrote.
According to the Defence Minister, Dr. Bawumia was deeply involved in shaping the economic policies that contributed to the country’s struggles under the NPP government. As such, Dr. Omane Boamah argued, it is disingenuous for the former Vice President to distance himself from the fallout.
The comments come amid growing debate within the NPP and the broader political landscape over the causes of the party’s 2024 defeat, with some analysts suggesting that internal divisions and economic hardships played major roles.
