Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has launched a scathing attack on former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Economic Management Team (EMT) he chaired, blaming them for plunging ordinary Ghanaians into deep economic hardship.
In a fiery Facebook post, Dr. Boamah accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of prioritizing its political ambitions for the 2026 elections rather than taking responsibility for what he described as the dire state in which they left the economy.
“In just six months out of office, instead of apologising sincerely for the harm they caused, the NPP is busy campaigning for the next election,” Dr. Boamah wrote.
He took particular aim at Dr. Bawumia’s past claims that his EMT was a “solid team,” referencing notable members such as Dr. Osei Akoto, Prof. Gyan Baffour, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, Alan Kyerematen, Boakye Agyarko, Ken Ofori-Atta, and former Senior Minister Yaw Osafo-Maafo.
“What a solid team indeed,” Dr. Boamah said with biting sarcasm.
“They left behind a trail of hardship — slashing pensioners’ investments, deepening the struggles of persons with disabilities, women, and the youth, and pushing the average Ghanaian into economic despair.”
He went on to condemn the NPP for being out of touch with the realities of struggling citizens and accused them of pursuing power without remorse or reflection.
“They think only about themselves and the next election, not the people they were elected to serve. Ghanaians deserve better,” he asserted.
Dr. Boamah’s remarks echo a growing sentiment among many who have been critical of the NPP’s handling of the economy, particularly in the wake of a severe debt crisis, inflationary pressures, and widespread cost-of-living concerns.
He ended his statement by suggesting that Ghana’s current trajectory requires a full transformation.
“The alternative is not just a slogan — it’s a necessary reset,” he concluded.
