A naming ceremony in Gbawe Zero, located in the Greater Accra Region, turned deadly on Friday, June 20, when an outbreak of violence resulted in a fatal shooting, leaving one person dead and another critically injured.

According to eyewitness accounts, the peaceful gathering spiraled into turmoil after a confrontation reportedly erupted between two rival Asafoatse, or traditional warrior leaders. What began as a celebratory event quickly turned into a scene of panic and bloodshed.

“Two individuals were shot during what is believed to be a violent clash between two rival Asafoatse,” a source confirmed.

The chaos that ensued saw guests fleeing for safety as gunshots rang out. One of the victims succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the second was rushed to Legon Hospital, where he is currently battling for his life.

“The injured victim is currently receiving treatment at the Legon Hospital,” sources indicated.

Authorities from the Gbawe Police Command have taken over the investigation and are working to determine what led to the altercation and to identify all individuals involved in the shooting.

As of now, the police have not released any official statement on the motive or identities of the suspects involved in the incident.

The tragic turn of events has left the local community in shock, with many calling for a swift and transparent investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
