One person has been confirmed dead, while four others sustained injuries following a collision between a Man-Diesel fuel tanker and a HOWO truck at the Kintampo Waterfalls junction along the Kintampo-Tamale highway on May 28, 2025.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported that the incident occurred around 12:14 p.m. when the two heavy-duty vehicles, a fuel tanker with registration number GN-4895-20 and a HOWO truck with registration number GE-555-23, collided under unclear circumstances.

According to the GNFS, a distress call was received shortly after the incident, prompting a swift emergency response. A rescue team led by Assistant Station Officer Bismark Bonnah Frimpong was immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the team found one of the drivers trapped in his vehicle but still alive. After a challenging rescue operation, the trapped driver was safely extricated and given medical attention.

The fire service confirmed that the vehicle’s cabin had been severely damaged, making the rescue effort difficult.

Four injured passengers were rescued earlier and transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, one person was found motionless inside the HOWO truck and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Although the Man-Diesel tanker was not carrying fuel at the time of the crash, both vehicles suffered extensive damage, particularly to their cabins, which were deemed beyond repair. No fire or fuel leakage was reported.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
