The Accra Regional Police Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Stephen King Amoah, an immigration officer reported missing on 4th July 2025, whose burnt body was found on 9th July 2025 in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate, Accra.

In a press statement, the police revealed that the charred body was found on 9th July and conveyed to the Police Hospital mortuary.

Investigators from Taifa police joined the scene and later accompanied the complainant, who reported the missing case and six other relatives to the mortuary, where the deceased was identified despite the extent of the burns.

According to the police, investigations indicate that on the evening of 3rd July, around 8:00 p.m., Stephen left his residence in Ashongman Estate after receiving WhatsApp images of cash bundles from a man named Bright Aweh.

Bright Awey, the prime suspect, requested to meet Stephen at a location in Ashongman Estate to settle an outstanding amount. Stephen never returned home that night, and his phone remained switched off thereafter.

Police subsequently arrested Bright Aweh, who admitted during interrogation to handing over GH¢ 500,000 in cash to Stephen.

He claimed he instructed Stephen to use part of the money to clear debts and to hold the remainder for later collection.

However, the suspect was unable to clearly explain the source of the funds and gave conflicting statements.

The Accra Regional Police Command has condemned this violent and criminal act and assured the public it is working diligently to uncover the full circumstances of the incident and bring all those responsible to justice.

Members of the public with relevant information are urged to contact the nearest police station or call emergency numbers 18555 or 192.
