The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with a violent highway robbery that took place in the early hours of Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Dabanyin, near the Gomoa Buduatta Junction along the Kasoa-Winneba Road.
According to police reports, around 12:30 a.m., five armed men staged an attack on drivers and passengers traveling along the busy route, robbing them of valuables including mobile phones and cash.
The swift response of police officers led to the arrest of one of the suspects, identified as Mohammed Bello, while the four other accomplices managed to flee the scene.
During the operation, police officers apprehended Bello in the area as he attempted to escape.
A search conducted on him uncovered several stolen items believed to belong to the victims of the robbery. The recovered items include:
An amount of GH₵3,740 in cash
Two Samsung smartphones
One Tecno Spark 20 mobile phone
An Itel keypad phone
An Itel power bank
A lady’s purse
Five sticks of cigarettes
Wristwatch
A headset and phone charger
A pair of sandals, identified by one of the victims
The suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations.
Authorities say intelligence-led operations are underway to track down and apprehend the remaining members of the gang.
Meanwhile, four victims who sustained gunshot wounds during the robbery are receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.
The police have also assured the public that every effort is being made to arrest the remaining suspects and ensure they face the full force of the law.
“The safety and security of our citizens remain our top priority, and we are committed to ensuring that all individuals involved in this criminal act are brought to justice,” the Command emphasised in a statement.
