Chairman of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, James Agalga, has disclosed that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has made significant progress in efforts to resolve the longstanding Bawku conflict.

He revealed that the revered monarch has already engaged both sides of the conflict in dialogue aimed at finding a lasting solution.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, 12 April, Mr Agalga called on the people of Bawku to cooperate with the peace process and give it a chance to yield positive results.

According to him, the Asantehene’s involvement is a vital step towards achieving reconciliation and long-term stability in the troubled area.

“So I can reveal that Otumfuo has done some work on the Bawku crisis and has met the two sides,” Agalga stated. “So I can only appeal to them to allow the peace process to proceed.”

Mr Agalga’s remarks come amidst heightened tensions in the Bawku enclave, where violent clashes have strained security efforts.

His appeal adds to the growing chorus of voices urging restraint and cooperation from residents, as key traditional and political stakeholders work behind the scenes to broker peace.
