A number of public servants residing in apartments assigned to them by the Ministry of Works and Housing at Ridge are being evicted.

These public servants, who are between 80 to 88 in number, according to information obtained by GhanaWeb, include directors, deputy directors, and senior technocrats from the various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The affected area has about 11 blocks, with each block containing 8 flats or apartments.

A notice of eviction posted on the buildings indicated that the occupants in the apartments are to move out by March 3, 2025.

The notice, which has a title “Office of the President,” reads as follows:

“Notice is hereby served to the occupants of this accommodation to pack out of this facility. Occupants have ten days to vacate the premises.

“Due Date is Monday, 3 March 2025 by 1:00 PM. Occupants are to note that no extensions will be granted.”

The Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo, speaking with GhanaWeb, corroborated the report of the eviction.

Speaking to GhanaWeb on Saturday, February 22, 2025, Dr Bampoe Addo indicated that the leadership of CLOGSAG is discussing the matter with the chief director of the ministry to understand the situation.

“We have just been told, so we are liaising with the chief director to actually appreciate what is happening. So, in due course, we would come out.

“That is what we are being told, and that is what they are telling us. We are getting in touch with the chief director to give us her part of the issue,” he said.

The eviction, should it happen, will not only affect the senior public servants, but also the hundreds of relations living with them.

The residents have also indicated that the brouhaha over the apartments started after the John Dramani Mahama government took office.

Although there has been no confirmation, the residents claim that members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are behind the attempts to evict the public servants.
