A routine PTA meeting at the Mrs. Dorothy Adentwi-Hayford Aggrey Memorial Senior High School turned dramatic when the headmistress stunned parents by publicly displaying a collection of seized items, including condoms, pills, and other unauthorized materials confiscated from students.
During her address at the Cape Coast gathering, the headmistress made a bold statement against rising indiscipline, placing the confiscated items on the high table in full view of stunned parents. The visual display, she explained, was meant to highlight the growing moral and behavioural challenges facing the school.
Although she declined to identify any students, she assured the gathering that those involved would face appropriate disciplinary actions alongside counselling to address their behaviour.
While emphasising that the majority of students remained disciplined and focused, she lamented the persistent misconduct of a few whose actions, she said, were undermining the school’s mission and reputation.
“These include sneaking out without exeat, bullying, stealing, truancy, and general apathy towards academic work,” she stated.
The headmistress didn’t hold back in criticising some parents who she claimed had become part of the problem by defending bad behaviour without investigating the facts. She condemned instances where parents verbally abused school staff or even went as far as invoking curses against authorities for disciplining their wards.
Mrs. Adentwi-Hayford announced that the school would be tightening its disciplinary framework, with zero tolerance for misconduct, as it aims to elevate its status from a category B to a category A school.
She appealed to parents to go beyond financial support and become more engaged in their children’s moral and academic development.
“When your children return home with complaints, please investigate. Contact the school before jumping to conclusions,” she urged.
She also reminded parents of the importance of respecting the school’s security protocols, which are in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
Several parents at the meeting voiced their support for the headmistress’s tough stance, commending her leadership and commitment to upholding discipline and academic standards.
