Parliament announces leadership for key committees

Parliament has officially appointed leaders for several key committees, assigning both government and opposition members to oversee critical sectors such as Finance, Health, Defence, and Education.

These committee heads will be responsible for leading discussions, reviewing bills, overseeing budgetary allocations, and ensuring the effective implementation of national programs.

As part of parliamentary oversight mechanisms, some committees will be chaired by opposition members to promote accountability and balanced governance.

The newly appointed leadership is expected to play a crucial role in shaping policy decisions and legislative processes in the country.

Public Accounts Committee (Chaired by Opposition) Chairperson: Abena Osei Asare Ranking Member: Samuel Atta-Mills

Committee on Economy and Development Chairman: Eric Afful Ranking Member: Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

Budget Committee (Chaired by Opposition) Chairman: Kwaku Kwarteng Ranking Member: Richard Acheampong

Committee on Gender, Children, and Social Welfare Chairperson: Helen Adjoa Ntoso Ranking Member: Adelaide Ntim

Constitutional and Legal Affairs Chairman: Shaibu Mahama Ranking Member: Kwame Anyimadu Antwi

Committee on Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs Chairman: Dr. Godfred Seidu Jassaw Ranking Member: Isaac Yaw Opoku

Lands and Natural Resources Chairman: Collins Dauda Ranking Member: Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong

Health Committee Chairman: Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane Ranking Member: Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie

Works and Housing Chairman: Vincent Oppong Asamoah Ranking Member: Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah

Local Government and Rural Development Chairperson: Queenstar Sawyer Ranking Member: Francis Asenso Boakye

Committee on Information and Communication Chairman: Abednego Bandim Azumah Ranking Member: Matthew Nyindam

Foreign Affairs Chairman: Alfred Okoe Vanderpuye Ranking Member: Samuel Abu Jinapor

Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions Chairman: Joseph Appiah Boateng Ranking Member: Mavis Nkansah Boadu

Defence and Interior Chairman: James Agalga Ranking Member: John Ntim Fordjour

Trade, Industry, and Tourism Chairman: Alexander Hotordze Ranking Member: Michael Okyere Baafi

Environment, Science, and Technology (Chaired by Opposition) Chairman: Yaw Frimpong Addo Ranking Member: Prof. Hamza Adam

Education Chairman: Peter Nortsu-Kotoe Ranking Member: Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

Youth and Sports Chairman: Henry Norgbey Ranking Member: Vincent Assafuah

Energy Chairman: Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah Ranking Member: George Kwame Aboagye

Roads and Transportation Chairman: Isaac Adjei Mensah Ranking Member: Kennedy Osei Nyarko

Security and Intelligence Chairperson: Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings Ranking Member: Dr. Bryan Acheampong

These appointments reflect Parliament’s commitment to effective governance, transparency, and bipartisan collaboration in handling national affairs.

The committees are expected to begin work immediately to review legislation, oversee government activities, and address key policy issues affecting Ghanaians.
