Parliament has approved a GH¢1.2 billion budget for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to fund key energy initiatives in the 2025 fiscal year.
The allocation is intended to enhance electricity distribution and accelerate Ghana’s shift towards renewable energy. As part of its 2025 objectives, the Ministry plans to install one million smart meters across various operational areas under the Programme for Results policy. This initiative aims to improve energy efficiency and curb power losses.
To further enhance service delivery, the Ministry is set to introduce private sector participation in the electricity distribution sector. The move is expected to bring in expertise and investment to strengthen operations and ensure a more reliable power supply.
Another major project outlined in the Ministry’s agenda is the Accra-Kumasi transmission line, which seeks to bolster power reliability between the two cities. Additionally, the Government Goes Solar initiative will be rolled out as part of the country’s broader efforts to adopt clean and sustainable energy solutions.
