A private energy and infrastructure finance consultant, Mr. Patrick Nyarko, has issued a strong caution to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirants and their supporters, urging them not to jeopardise party unity in the aftermath of the upcoming presidential primaries.
Speaking to this reporter on Thursday, June 19, 2025, Mr. Nyarko emphasised that the NPP’s ultimate goal must be to secure victory in the 2028 general elections—and this, he said, cannot be achieved if losing candidates and their followers resort to divisive conduct.
“When you have schedules in politics, you either strategize, work with it, or die complaining,” he said, adding, “that if you lose the primaries, then do not cry and bring confusion in, the party because we are focused on winning the 2028 general elections.”
He reiterated that while every party member is entitled to back their preferred candidate, they must be gracious in defeat and work together to ensure the party remains united.
Mr. Nyarko’s remarks come in response to heightened tensions and public commentary among party faithful in the lead-up to the NPP’s internal reorganisation process. He expressed concern that recent statements by key figures in support of specific candidates could sow seeds of discord within the party.
He referenced comments made by Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, a former government spokesperson on security and governance, who claimed that “approximately 50 sitting MPs are in support of Kennedy Agyapong.” According to Mr. Nyarko, such declarations—especially from prominent party members—violate the spirit of internal neutrality and risk intensifying factionalism within the NPP.
“I am not opposed to anyone’s support for any candidate, but our collective actions and inactions will be a crucial factor in determining the party’s unity after the internal primaries,” he emphasised.
Mr. Nyarko called for a measured and respectful campaign atmosphere, warning that the party cannot afford internal rifts if it hopes to recapture power in 2028.
