Peace and Love Hospital in Ghana leads global innovation with 10minute breast cancer diagnosis

Breast cancer treatments in Ghana have received a boost following the introduction of CoreView, a groundbreaking technology that delivers a breast cancer diagnosis within 10 minutes at the bedside.

The new technology, the first in its kind to be used globally at the Peace and Love Hospitals in Ghana, eliminates long wait times for biopsy results, thus transforming cancer care.

CoreView was developed by Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai in collaboration with Professor Richard Levenson of UC Davis and Professor Eric Seibel of the University of Washington, Seattle, USA.

The CoreView diagnosing machine was commissioned on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the Peace and Love Hospital at Oduom in the Oforikrom municipality in the Ashanti region.

In attendance was Professor Eric Seibel of the University of Washington, Seattle, USA, one of the investors of the CoreView diagnostic machine, and other medical practitioners.

Revolutionizing Cancer Diagnosis
The CEO of Peace and Love Hospital, Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai, noted that traditionally, diagnosing breast cancer requires transporting tissue samples to a histology lab, where processing can take days, weeks, or even months.

“However, CoreView allows medical professionals to analyze biopsy samples immediately in the procedure room, providing real-time diagnosis and enabling patients to begin treatment on the same day,” she said.

She added that “the system also supports remote diagnosis, allowing digital images of tissue samples to be sent to pathologists worldwide for expert review, further enhancing accessibility and speed.

The Future: AI-Powered Cancer Detection

Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai, who is also the President of Breast Care International (BCI), emphasized that CoreView is not just about speed; it also sets the stage for AI-driven diagnostics, which will further improve accuracy and efficiency in breast cancer detection.

“By integrating artificial intelligence, the system will be able to analyze tissue samples instantly, even in resource-limited settings, making cancer care more equitable and accessible,” she posited.

She was hopeful that the introduction of the CoreView diagnosis machine would boost cancer treatment in Ghana by offering quick biopsy results to determine one’s cancer status.

A Landmark Achievement in Global Healthcare

Professor Eric Seibel, speaking at the commissioning, said the technology does not interfere with standard histology or molecular testing, ensuring that traditional methods remain available as a gold standard for verification.

“By introducing this cutting-edge technology, Ghana is leading the world in innovative breast cancer care, setting a new benchmark for how medical institutions globally can improve early detection and save lives,” he stated.

Professor Eric Seibel commended Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai for her tireless efforts for the development of CoreView to ensure speedy breast cancer treatments.

“This breakthrough at the Peace and Love Hospital is expected to redefine cancer treatment, making diagnosis faster, more accurate, and accessible to patients everywhere, especially in underserved communities,” he posited.
