People miss him because of how he engaged everyone – Patrick Agyemang on enduring legacy of Gyan

Charlotte FC striker Patrick Agyemang has opened up on his admiration for former Ghana international Asamoah Gyan.

The 24-year-old, born to Ghanaian parents grew up watching Gyan make history with the Black Stars.

While Agyemang models his striker’s instincts on Thierry Henry’s dominance and Didier Drogba’s physicality, he credits Gyan for something rarer: unscripted joy.

“When it comes to the joy of the game, flair, and talent; Asamoah Gyan, he’s right there. Because every game he scores a goal, you don’t know what celebration he’s going to do but it’s going to be some dance. I love that because you don’t see that too much in this game anymore,” he told Flashscore in an exclusive interview.

Agyemang was one of the breakout stars from the MLS last season scoring 10 goals and providing 3 assists.

His form saw him invited to the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) for the January training camp.

The striker seized the opportunity, scoring twice in two friendlies – including a debut goal against Venezuela that made him the 60th American to score on his first cap.

Agyemang mimicked one of Gyan’s dancing celebrations after scoring against Venezuela.

“I think people miss him because of how he engaged everyone. People still do his celebrations, including me,” Agyemang concluded.

Agyemang has started pre-season in fine form scoring two goals in two games so far for Charlotte FC.
