Petition to Asantehene on CJ’s removal blocked by influential figures – Janet Nabla alleges

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II

Janet Nabla, Chairperson of the People’s National Party (PNP), claims “influential government officials” are obstructing her campaign against the removal of suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo.

Nabla stated she was denied a scheduled meeting with Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Friday, July 25,2025, despite an alleged confirmation from his office.

She had petitioned the Asantehene on July 1, 2025, seeking his intervention in the Chief Justice’s removal process.

Nabla expressed “disappointment” with the Manhyia Palace, noting that the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, reportedly met with the Asantehene around the same time she was denied access.

The PNP Chairperson directly accused “the presidency and other powerful government figures” of hindering her efforts.
