Police arrest suspect in UEW lecturer’s gruesome murder

Police have arrested a prime suspect in the murder of a Senior Lecturer from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), whose body was recently discovered secretly buried in his home.

The suspect, identified as Joshua Karry Arthur, was taken into custody on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the late lecturer’s residence in Essuokyir, a suburb of Winneba. The arrest marks a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the lecturer’s killing.

Authorities say the arrest followed a report by the deceased’s colleagues after he was declared missing. When officers visited the lecturer’s home, they found bloodstains inside the house. This led them to a mound of sand approximately 23 meters away, where the lecturer’s body had been buried.

Following the discovery, the remains were exhumed and sent to a medical facility for preservation and autopsy.

Police have confirmed that multiple items belonging to the victim were found in Joshua Karry Arthur’s possession at the time of arrest. These include two Samsung mobile phones, a laptop, a 50-inch television, and a car key to a Toyota Fortuner—all believed to be significant pieces of evidence in the case.

Joshua Karry Arthur is currently in custody and assisting investigators. He is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.

The Central Regional Police Command has assured the public of their full commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice is served.
