Police asks EC for roadmap on 2024 Ablekuma North election collation; assures of providing security

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno has asked the Electoral Commission to provide the police with the roadmap for the collation and declaration of results for the Ablekuma North parliamentary election results.

According to the IGP, the police is fully prepared to provide security support if the EC decides to resume the collation process.

The IGP made the assurance at a meeting on Thursday, May 8, 2025 with the Election Security Taskforce, other security agencies at the CID headquarters in Accra.

“The EC must provide the National Election Security Taskforce with a roadmap for the formalisation of the collation,” he said.

He described the situation as critical and cautioned that how it is handled will affect how people throughout the country see electoral integrity.

“This is a pivotal moment. The way we handle the collation in Ablekuma North will resonate across the country. It will set the tone, not only for this election, but also for public confidence in the years to come,” Dr. Yohuno added.

“Today, we gather at a critical juncture. The collation of results for the Ablekuma North constituency has unfortunately become the flashpoint of contention. Both the NPP and NDC have declared victory leading to rising tensions, the eyes of the nation and indeed the world are upon us to see how we manage this situation.

“Before today’s meeting, representatives from the Electoral Commission and POMAB met to discuss the way forward for Ablekuma North,” he noted.

The IGP added that police will guard against any attempt by anyone to disturb the collation process through threats and violence.

Ablekuma North remains the only constituency with 2024 election results to be declared after several failed attempts by the EC to declare the parliamentary results.

Both NDC and NPP have claimed to be winners of the Ablekuma North parliamentary seat despite results of three polling station results yet to be declared.
