Kumasi: Police launch investigation into gruesome murder of Kusaasi Chief at Asawase

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief and Kaadi Divisional Area Chief in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at approximately 8:40 p.m. near the Asawase F-Line Community Centre.

According to eyewitnesses, two unidentified gunmen arrived at the chief’s residence on a motorbike, with one of them wielding an AK-47 rifle.

The armed man fired several shots at the chief and fled the scene.

The police in a press release signed by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Godwin Ahianyo said the chief was rushed to the Manhyia District Hospital and later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, visited the crime scene and assured the public that every effort is being made to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

Two empty shells suspected to be from an AK-47 assault rifle were retrieved at the crime scene. The police urge anyone with relevant information to contact the nearest police station or call emergency lines 191, 18555, or 112.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo for autopsy.

The Police Command has intensified security in the area.
