Policeman injured trying to control rioting trainees of Savannah College of Education

One police officer sustained a head injury while trying to control a crowd of teacher trainees from the Savannah College of Education in Daboya, Savannah Region.

The police, led by the Savannah Regional Commander and other senior officers, escorted the principal of the college to campus to address the students as part of their demands.

However, the situation turned chaotic, leading to the attack on the police officer. He was rushed to the Daboya Health Centre, where he was treated and discharged.

A student suspect was quickly arrested but has since been granted bail with a warning to refrain from inciting trouble.

Meanwhile, the students have vowed not to back down on their demand for full disclosure of the college’s status despite an address by the principal, Dr. Susah Ekpampo.

They have scheduled a demonstration on the principal streets of Daboya on Wednesday, March 5.

It will be recalled that MyJoyOnline earlier published concerns raised by Level 100 students of the college, who demanded clarity on the school’s status and refunds of their fees. The students staged a protest on campus, carrying placards with inscriptions such as “SCoE is a scam”.

MyJoyOnline can confirm that the college principal is leading a high-powered delegation of chiefs, including the Paramount Chief of Wasipe in Daboya and the Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Soale I, to the seat of government for a resolution on the college’s status.
