Poor state of school building hinders enrollment at Edele-Suazo M/A Primary in Nzema East Municipality

Residents of the Nuebesah Electoral Area in the Nzema East Municipality are appealing to the government and philanthropists for help in building a new school.

The community’s only government school is in a deplorable state, making learning difficult for children.

The deteriorating state of Edele-Suazo M/A Primary School has become a major deterrent for parents, preventing them from enrolling their wards.

The school, a deteriorating mud building with cracked and eroded walls, houses KG1 and KG2, with just four pupils enrolled.

During rainfall, lessons come to an abrupt halt as the poorly roofed building provides little protection from the elements.

The dire conditions have also made it difficult to retain teachers. Those posted to the school often refuse to stay, citing the poor state of the school.

Currently, the only teacher who has remained at the school for the past five years is eager to seek a transfer, further worsening the already fragile situation.

The community’s Assembly Member Joseph Amozu expressed worry, calling for urgent intervention.

“The school’s poor condition is alarming. Teachers posted here refused to stay. The only teacher who agreed to stay has been here for five years. Sadly, she also is eager to leave, as there has not been any infrastructural upgrade of her residence, and l have been encouraging her to stay but for how long can l keep encouraging her to stay?” He lamented.

He laments that his efforts to obtain assistance from the Assembly to refurbish the school have yielded little results.

Hence a plea for philanthropists to come to their aid by constructing a school “since this is the sole government school in the whole Nuebesah electoral area with 16 villages and our school is in a poor state.”
